Visit www.recyclenow.com for information on your local council's recycling policy.

Alternatively why not put the tree to good use in your garden. Winter birds will appreciate using your real Christmas tree for cover in your garden especially if you fill it with bird food. For information on how to make a ‘suet log’ with your cut Christmas tree click here.

Real Christmas trees can also be recycled to use as mulch around the garden. You can chop or grind smaller branches for wood chips to use in your borders. Larger branches can be cut into smaller bundles for protective mulch around newly planted perennials and small shrubs.

If you live near a zoo you could donate your Christmas tree to them. Did you know that elephants love Christmas trees!
